(1118-1190 C.E.)His common name was Sato Norikiyo. Once a samurai, he abandoned his secular life to become a monk. He traveled around Japan comprising a great number of poems.

月が私を悲しませようとでもしているのか、いやそんなはずはないのだが、そうとでも思いたくなるほど、月にかこつけるようにして涙が流れてしまうのだ。
I wonder if the moon is trying to make me feel sad. Oh, I know it is not so, yet my despair is so great that I want to place the blame on the moon. My tears flow in an endless stream.
