(生没年不詳)三十六歌仙の一人。官位は低く任地の島根県で没したという。後世、歌聖と呼ばれた。
Kakinomoto-no-Hitomaro
(Birth/death dates unknown)Named one of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets. His official rank was low, and he died at the place where he was posted, in current Shimane Prefecture. He was posthumously regarded as a perfect master of poetry.

垂れ下がった山鳥の尾羽のような長い長いこの秋の夜を、離ればなれで寝るという山鳥の夫婦のように、私もたった一人で寂しく寝ることになるのかなあ。
The autumn night is as long as the tail and wings of the peacock. Like the pheasant pairs who sleep apart, I spend this night in lonely solitude.
